iPod Notes
Help for version 2

Download the latest version of the program from this page.

General Information

Starting using it
At launch, if an iPod is connected, the program shows the notes contained in it into the listbox at left. To be detected by the application the iPod must be mounted in disk mode. To enable the the disk mode of the iPod select the appropriate option in iTunes preferences. If no iPod is connected at launch simply connect it and iPod Notes will immedietely detect it and will display its notes. If you prefer you can click the "Use a Folder" button and choose a folder in the hard disk to store the notes. Later you'll be able to synchronize the notes in this folder with those in the iPod.

How to

Changing the title of a note
To change the note title click on it in the list and type the desired title the press the enter key. The notes will be displayed in alphabetic order inside the folders.

Changing the notes source
It is possible to change the source of the notes we're editing at any time. To do it select the "Choose Folder" item from the "File" menu. Now if our current notes source is a folder in the hard disk and iPod Notes can detect a mounted iPod you will be asked if you want to use it as the source device for the notes. If no iPod is detected or we decide not to use it we can choose any folder on the hard disk and the notes contained in it will be displayed.

Creating a folder
To create a new folder click the "+" button with a folder icon. A new folder will be created inside the current folder and will be selected in the list. You will be able to move it inside any other desired folder by drag and drop. The folders will be seen as items in the "Notes" menu of the iPod.

Creating a link
The notes can be linked via the Link Editor window. To create a link open the Link Editor window usinge the action menu in the lower right corner of the main window, select the text portion to be used for the link (it will appear in the Link Editor next to the "Link text" label), click the "Add Link" button and choose the note or folder to link from the notes list that will appear. The selected text will be underlined to represent an existing link. To verify that the link is working click on the underlined text while pressing the option key and the linked note or folder will be selected.

Creating a note
To create a new note click the "+" button with a note icon. A new note will be created inside the current folder and will be selected in the list. You will be able to move it inside any other desired folder by drag and drop. To put text into it type or paste or drag it into the field at the right of the main window. You can change the title of the note as you please. The size of any single note is limited to 4kb, any text exceeding 4kb will be truncated. The notes can be linked via the Link Editor window. The iPod supports up to 1000 notes, if there are more than 1000 only the first 1000 willbe loaded.

Synchronizing the notes
To synchronize the notes in the iPod with those in the source folder on the hard disk choose the "Synchronize Notes" item from the "File" menu. If we're currently working on the iPod notes we'll be able to choose a destination folder in the hard disk and copy into it all the notes contained in the iPod. If we're working on a source folder in the hard disk we'll be able to copy all the notes containes in this folder into the iPod. Please be aware that the entire contents of the destination (either a folder on the hard disk or the iPod notes) will be erased and substituted with the contents of the source and will not be recoverable. Will be thus good practice to creat a backup copy of the contents of the destination before performing a synchronization.

Troubleshooting

The program doesn't keep the registration code
In one of the previous versions of the program there was a bug that prevented to register the application with some particular system configurations. Whether the program forgot you entered the registration code, do as follows:

  • Quit the program if it is running, and delete the folder located at:

/Users/<you>/Library/Preferences/Altomac/ApplicationName/
/Users/<you>/Library/Application Support/Altomac/ApplicationName/

  • Download the latest version of the program from this page.
  • Launch the program in order to recreate from scratch the resources it needs.
