Frequently asked questions

Which web browser is used to open a web page?
When you launch a recent or favorite web page, it will be opened with the default web browser.

Which are the web browsers supported for Recents and Current Item?
Current web browser supported for Recents and Current Item are: Safari, Camino Opera and OmniWeb. FireFox and other web browsers currently are not supported, but we're working to possibly expand the number of supported web browsers.

When I use the Task "Quit All Applications" a windows pops up asking me to locate the file "firefox-bin" or something similar to this.
This problems could accour in some particular situations where FireFox is running. Unfortunately FireFox is not supported by the Task "Quit All Applications". The same problem could happens also with Neo Office or other applications that don't handle AppleScript in a standard way. We apologise for the problems this could cause to you.

Known Issues

I have been trying out Speedy Mac but it won't launch. It just keeps bouncing in the dock. I have also tried trashing the prefs file but it didn't help.
There is a rare situation where the program won't launch when you are using (or you have just used) Safari. If this is your situation, try to quit and relaunch Safari. If the program still hang, try to quit it and relaunch it (the "Quit" command is under the Options menu item).

If these solutions have not helped you, please give us more information such as OS version, Mac model and the console.log, that you can find by launching /Applications/Utilities/Console.app and choosing "console.log".

Troubleshooting

The first time I used Speedy Mac, I added two applications to my Favorites and then I get three times the menu “Recents”.
This rare problem with the multiple instances of Recents section in the menu at first launch of the application, will go away after restart of the computer. We're investigating the issue to solve it as soon as possible and we hope to release a new version that fix this bug.

How To

How to create a new task?
Speedy Mac's Tasks are standard Automator's Workflow files and standard AppleScript's script files. Here is an example of creation of a Task that send birthday greetings using Automator.

  • Open Automator (you can find it in the Applications folder).
  • From the Libray, drag the item "Find People with Birthdays" to the pane at right (the item has the Address Book icon).
  • From the "Find people whose birthday is" popup menu, choose "This Week".
  • Now do the same with "Send Birthday Greetings" (the item has the Mail icon).
  • Personalize the text and the image for the greeting as you like more.
  • Now, from the "File" menu of Automator, choose "Save As..." and give to the file your preferred name (for example "Send Weekly Birthday Greetings"). This will be the name of the Task you'll see under the Task menu.
  • As file format choose "Workflow".
  • OK, your Task for Speedy Mac is ready! Open the Task menu of Speedy Mac and choose "Add Task..." then choose the file you created with Automator and your new task will be added to the menu.

Usage Tips

Quickly populating of the Favorites menu
A very convenient way to populate the favorites menu is the use of the "Add to Favorites" menu item of the "Current Item" menu. In the image below, you can see for example how to quiclky add the folder "Movies" as a favorite folder.
